A Brief History of Thai Youth Orchestra : TYO

Objectives
TYO was created with a clear vision: to create international standard youth symphony orchestra, grooming aspiring professional musicians and other career leaders through music education, and represent Thailand’s rich cultural heritage through classical music, arguably the world’s most significant art form for any developed country across the world.
For the past 32 years, TYO have initiated annual auditions for Thai musicians aged between 10-25 years old, regardless of religion, education, and family backgrounds. Around 100 talented individuals are chosen out of 250-plus applicants to form a large symphony orchestra.
Each weekend, members meet at Thailand Cultural Centre to receive music workshops by the country’s top professionals, and rehearse as an orchestra by music director.

Activities
Each season, annual music camp is held across the provincial Thailand as part of the outreach cultural and education program, engaging local music students and teachers with TYO instructors and gain experience performing alongside the ensemble. The local public enjoy free concerts with music aimed to create happiness through different styles of music.
Regular concerts have been held at TYO’s home, Thailand Cultural Centre, and other venues in a more casual settings such as parks, malls, and government functions. These activities have created positive awareness towards music as performing art, education, and lifestyle.
TYO have produced over 1,500 professional Thai musicians, achieving major successes in their endeavours such as Silpathorn Artists, deans of music colleges and many other prominent positions including concertmasters and principles in major orchestras across Thailand and the region including RBSO & TPO.
